The best plants that can be cultivated and harvested in return are those herbs and green leafy vegetables such as the lettuces, spinaches, chives, watercress and basils. The high nitrogen fertilizer are made by the fishes which allows plants to grow lushly, so these plants can grow much easier in the fish aquaponic systems.

Plants can yield their fruit in much higher nutritional components and even if they grow best in fish aquaponics systems, they also need to be placed in heavily stocked and well established systems, such as the bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers which are best cultivated in aquaponics systems. In the other hand, plants do not respond well in the aquaponic system are the carrots and potatoes. Here is the step by step process in the fish aquaponics system. First is that the fishes which are living in the fish aquaponics tanks are excreting wastes and breathes ammonia into the water. Ammonia is known to be toxic when the fishes are getting high concentrations already, so it is now being removed from the fish tanks in order for the fishes to be healthy they should also be removed in the tanks. Second step is that the ammonia laden water is being processed in order to harvest various types of bacteria such as the Nicrobacter and Nitrosomonas. The Nitrosomonas will turn now from ammonia to nitrate while in the other hand the nitrosomonas will be converted into nitrate, so both of these bacterias can be used as a plant fertilizer. Third step is that the nitrate rich water will now be introduced into the hydroponically grown plants, these plants will be placed in beds that will sit on the tubs which are then filled with water. The plants’ roots are hanging in the holes so that they can get nutrients from the water. Next is that the roots of the plants are absorbing the nitrates which makes it much healthier. These nitrates that are coming from the manure of the fishes are serving as a natural fertilizer for the plants. The hydroponic roots are functioning at the same time as a bio filter, they are stripping ammonia, nitrates, phosphorus and nitrites which are coming from the water. And lastly that it will serve now as clean water which is circulating back into the fishes tanks. The fishes are very important in the fish aquaponic systems, because they are responsible in fertilizing the plants. So there is no need for you to worry much on chemical fertilizers. You can truly save much money in using this kind of fish aquaponics natural fish system. The only things that you need to spend much on maintenance are the feeds of the fishes.
